Proserpinaca Palustris, also known as Marsh Mermaid Weed, is a highly attractive stem plant which is one of our favourites.
Aquarzon observes this plant as having many unique split end leaves that look like sharp feathers. Besides the unique shaped leaves, it can also develop beautiful orangey-red coloration especially under higher intensity lighting. There are two types of Prosperpinaca Palustris, one from the United States and one from Cuba.
It is highly recommended to get a few stems to create a beautiful aquascape effect. These are, showy stem plants perfect for midground or background so around 2-4 stems would be excellent.
More lighting is recommended for this plant.
It can be positioned in the midground or background position of an aquarium, depending on tank size. In the aquarium hobby, its availability is limited due to its relatively slower growth rate which makes it not as common as most other stem plants.
This plant is best used in an aquascape that requires a unique leaf midground or background plant with ability to develop an orangey-red colouration.
Based on Aquarzon's experience, this is a relatively easy coloured stem plant but it needs time to transition to a new aquarium of which during the process, it may lose some leaves.
How and where Proserpinaca Palustris is grown is important because if this plant was emersed grown, it requires a significant amount of time to transition from its emersed form (green and saw-toothed leaves) to its submersed form (orangey-red and finely toothed leaves) and this process can also involve melting in an aquarium. Our stock are grown in our aquarium submersed so it would minimise any such issue and is beautiful right out of the box and ready to be planted straight in an aquarium.
This plant grown by Aquarzon is 100% aquarium submersed grown indoor and is very clean, free from weeds and outdoor pests. It is not tissue culture or emersed grown stock which can suffer transitional melting issues when planted in an aquarium. Our indoor submersed grown stock is in very healthy condition and ready to be planted straight in an aquarium.
