Hygrophila Pinnatifida is a beautiful plant that Aquarzon observes as growing in the unique shape of a palm tree. Besides having an attractive leaf pattern, it forms burgundy / maroon coloured leaves under higher intensity light. Its reddish to purplish brown leaves can create a beautiful contrast with green plants in an aquascape. Its colouration depends heavily on the light intensity it is grown in. If it in a shaded area for example, it would grow more green colouration.

Hygrophila Pinnatifida is a very versatile plant that can be positioned in my areas. This plant does not grow fast and is therefore, suitable for midground in almost all aquariums. As a midground plant, it can be trimmed easily and replanted when it gets tall. It can also be used as a background plant when it grows tall. In large tanks, it is also possible to use it as a foreground plant but needs to be trimmed when it gets tall.

Based on Aquarzon's propagation experience, this stem plant is one of the few that is quick to show pinholes when the aquarium water is lacking in potassium. As such, it is a good plant to be a natural indicator of potassium level in an aquarium. If there are some pinholes forming, it usually means more potassium is needed.

This plant is best used in an aquascape that requires a beautiful pattern and coloured plant or a plant that resembles a palm tree in the midground to background region.

In our opinion, this is one of the best plants to create the illusionary effect of a tree in an aquascape. The reasons are two folds. Firstly, its leaf growth directions and pattern resembles the pattern of a palm tree. Secondly, its stem does resemble the bark of a tree as it is dark brown, hard and thick. If this plant is positioned well in an aquascape, a stunning appearance can be achieved.

When this plant is packed for postage, Aquarzon will try its best to find similar size stems. For example, if 2 stems are ordered, Aquarzon will try to find 2 similar medium/standard size stems. However, it might not be possible all the time due to the natural size variability of this plant and stock availability at that exact point of packing time. Therefore, for example in a case whereby Aquarzon is not able to harvest 2 similar medium/standard size stems, Aquarzon would do its best to harvest the equivalent worth, such as 1 larger stem and 1 smaller stem.

This plant grown by Aquarzon is 100% aquarium submersed grown indoor and is very clean, free from weeds and outdoor pests. It is not tissue culture or emersed grown stock which can suffer transitional melting issues when planted in an aquarium. Our indoor submersed grown stock is in very healthy condition and ready to be planted straight in an aquarium.
