The right combination of filter media is essential for good water quality which results in algae avoidance and healthy fish or shrimp. Mechanical filtration and bio filtration is important. Biomedia such as bacteria house, ceramic balls, pumice are all biomedia which can hosts a large amount of good nitrifying bacteria which helps to handle the aquarium bioload.
