It is important to measure the aquarium water parameters occasionally to ensure the right conditions are being provided for fish, shrimp and/or plants for them to thrive. This 100-test strip kit bottle is so handy, really easy to use (30 seconds to show results) and it can be very useful to have one bottle on hand.

FEATURES

This 7-in-1 aquarium water test strip kit contains 100 individual test strips (larger pack) which makes it excellent value for money. It is around 5 times cheaper than API 5-in-1 100 pack test strips which costs around $90-$100.

It can be used for both freshwater and marine aquariums.

This test strip kit tests for:

Aquarium water PH

General Hardness (GH)

Carbonate Hardness/Total Alkalinity (KH)

Carbonate

Nitrite

Nitrate

Free Chlorine

With 100 test strips in 1 bottle, it costs less than 20 cents to test 7 water parameters at once.

It also very fast to use as it takes just around 30 seconds to measure 7 water parameters at once.

Just dip the test strip into your aquarium water and wait 30 seconds for the results to show.

The advantages would be the very low cost,  very fast speed and easy convenience.

COST COMPARISON

Compared to API 5-in-1 100 pack test strips which costs around $90-$100, these 7-in-1 aquarium tests strip offered by Aquarzon here is around $15-$20 which makes it around 5 times cheaper.

On top of that, these tests cover more parameters (7 aquarium water parameters instead of 5).

ACCURACY

The manufacturer states the accuracy as 95+% which is very high for a test strip.

QUALITY

Aquarzon has specially sourced these 7-in-1 aquarium test strips which are made by a specialist manufacturer with R&D team that
specialises in the production of water quality testing products including lab-grade tests covering E.Coli bacteria, etc.
There are several different factories that produce using the same packaging but the quality and accuracy can vary.
The ones offered by Aquarzon are sourced directly from a specialist manufacturer and t
hese are as accurate as test strips can possibly be.

AQUARZON HONEST INFO on Aquarium Test Strip vs Liquid Test

Aquarzon believes in helping our customers make the correct and informed buying decisions. As such, we would like to explain the advantages and disadvantages of test strips compared to liquid test kits.

ADVANTAGES

1) Speed & Convenience (at least 10 times faster)

The first advantage of test strip kits like this is that it is super fast to use (literally takes around 30 seconds to show results) and you are able to measure 7 water parameters at once.

As for liquid test kits, it takes way much longer time.  When using liquid test kits, it usually involves using a pipette to take a water sample, adding another liquid, shaking to mix, waiting for the mixture to change colour, etc. which takes much more time. And most liquid tests test 1 parameter at a time which means you would need to do multiple times to test different water parameters

As such, when using different liquid
test kits to test 7 different water parameters one by one, it can take 10-15 minutes whereas using a 7-in-1 test strip takes less than 1 minute (30 seconds to show results). This makes test strips at least 10 times faster.

Sometimes, you would just want to quickly test a water parameter after a long day at work and in times like these, test strips are excellent. You can just dip, wait 30 seconds and the results are visible.

2) Costs (much cheaper)

A 7-in-1 aquarium test strip 100 pack here at Aquarzon costs around $15-$18.

But if buying liquid test kits to cover most of these 7 different parameters, it usually costs $100 or more (around 5-6 times more expensive).

As an example,
API GH & KH liquid test kit is around $30, API PH liquid test kit is around $20, API Nitrite liquid test kit is around $27 and API nitrate $37 which totals to $114. Or if using API frehwater master liquid kit which is around $70 and & API GH & KH liquid test kit $30, it still totals $100 which makes it many times more expensive.

DISADVANTAGES

However, there are disadvantages too and Aquarzon believes in being transparent about it because we are hobbyists too and we want customers to know that. Nothing is perfect and here are the disadvantages:

The disadvantage of aquarium test strip kits is that it is not as accurate as liquid test kits (for example, 96% vs 98-99% accuracy).

Another disadvantage is that you need to close the bottle is tightly after use as constant exposure to air moisture can reduce its accuracy.

VERDICT & RECOMMENDATION

It is a consensus in the aquarium hobby that tests (regardless of whether they test strips or liquid tests)  are needed because issues like nitrite, nitrate, PH (affected by KH), water hardness (GH), etc. all affect fish, shrimp and plants. Nitrite for example can harm fish and can kill shrimp. Very high nitrate can also harm fish and shrimp. PH and water hardness should be measured to ensure the right conditions are provided to fish, shrimp and/or plants. For example, guppies thrive in neutral to alkaline water (PH7-8) and harder water (GH 8-12) so if a hobbyist does not measure the aquarium water, the hobbyist might not know the water might be PH6 (acidic) and GH1-2 (very soft water). While the guppies may survive, they might not thrive when the right conditions are not provided and these can cause them to be more prone to health issues in the long term. The same applies for shrimp where some shrimp need slightly acidic softer water, low KH, etc. otherwise they can encounter issues.

So at the end of the day, what is best for you (test strip vs liquid test) depends on your needs.

If your priority is speed, ease, convenience and cost while being fine with some variance in accuracy, test strips are generally the better option.

But if top accuracy is the absolute priority and the extra costs and extra time used are not a matter, then liquid tests are generally the better option.

In our honest opinion, we think that test strips can be very good and is something great to have for super quick and very easy all-in-one testing while being way cheaper and still reasonably accurate.

But if there is a major issue (such as unknown mass deaths) and it if it is important to get extra accurate measurements for diagnosis, then liquid tests will be needed.
