Vallisneria Portion Size : 1 tall plant with usually around 5-8 leaves (plant height usually around 30-45cm)
Portion Type: 100% Quality Indoor Submersed Grown, not Outdoor Emersed Grown
Vallisneria is a tall-growing background aquarium plant that can grow to around 35-45cm in plant height. It is excellent to provide tall green background coverage. It is a very easy plant which is suitable for low tech tank (does not require CO2 addition and does not require high lighting). Low to medium lighting is usually fine.
It is excellent for nature aquarium aquascape, Dutch aquascapes as well as rainforest, forest, jungle and river theme scapes.
Many aquarists do not know that a very large number of Vallisneria sold in the aquarium trade are outdoor emersed grown such as in ponds as they take a lot of space. However, when they are outdoor emersed grown, they are exposed to outdoor pests which can hitchhike or lay eggs on them. For example, highly-predatorial dragonfly and damsefly nymph / larvae can hitchhike on them and when it gets introduced inside your aquarium, they will kill and eat your shrimp or fish.
We know of some hobbyists who had lost hundred dollars worth of shrimp and fish once the nymphs got into their aquariums and their shrimp and fish started disappearing one by one. The nymph can hide between plants and hunt your tank inhabitants when it is dark. By the time an aquarist realises, it is usually when many shrimp or fish have already mysteriously died. This is why we emphasise on quality over quantity. It may be tempting to buy what appears as a larger quantity of Val for a cheaper price but those are usually outdoor emersed/pond-grown where the risk of carrying outdoor predatorial nymph pest is high. All you need is just 1 nymph and it can start hiding and eating up all your shrimp or fish one by one without even having its presence seen until its very late.
For the Vallisneria sold by Aquarzon here, we keep them submersed indoor to avoid outdoor pests like predatorial nymphs and Aquarzon will also do a general manual rinsing before packaging for cleanliness.
Do note that because these Vallisneria are grown in aquarium/indoor setups, they have a higher growing cost because of electricity, CO2 and indoor rental space. As such, the portion may not be as some outdoor pond grown ones but it is good to remember that quality is more important than quantity because all plants grow but if outdoor pests (from outdoor pond-grow Vallisneria) infest your aquarium, you can suffer a lot of problems such as dragonfly nymph hiding and eating your fish/shrimp which is not easy to eradicate and will cause more losses in money and time.

Aquarzon recommends this plant for aquascapes which need a tall background plant that can grow to the water surface of the aquarium.
Do note that while we would very carefully package this plant, due to very long length of this plant as well as the crispy texture of its leaves which makes it easy to break, a bit of leaves may have breakage upon arrival. This is completely normal. The majority of the leaves will usually still be fine. Moreover, this plant can easily grow new leaves. This plant can sometimes shed its leaves when transitioning to a new aquarium. It is still alive and will usually grow new, stronger leaves when planted and allowed to transition.
As with all Vallisneria, Aquarzon would like too highlight to our customers that products containing glutaraldehyde can negatively affect Val. Products that contain glutaraldehyde includes Seachem Excel, liquid carbon and BBA remover algaecides. We have checked official Seachem information and Seachem states that their recommended dosage of Seachem Excel is fine with Vallisneria. However, we recommend that if you are using Seachem Excel, you should start with half dosage first and if the plant is fine, then you can gradually increase to full dosage.
This plant grown by Aquarzon is 100% aquarium submersed grown indoor and is very clean, free from weeds and outdoor pests. It is not tissue culture or emersed grown stock which can suffer transitional melting issues when planted in an aquarium. Our indoor submersed grown stock is in very healthy condition and ready to be planted straight in an aquarium.
