Vallisneria Jacobsi is a unique and beautiful Australian native Vallisneria that was discovered by Dave Wilson in the Northern Territory and officially described by Alex Martin.
Unlike most other Vallisnernia, this Val Jacobsi can grow coloured leaves (reddish, pinkish and creamish) leaves when they fully matured (above 40cm) and especially when growing with stronger lighting. Our stock is usually quite long, around 25-30cm, depending on the batch.
Aquarzon observes this as growing 2-3 times broader leaves than common Vallisneria and flat style dimension which is seen in Xyris. In our opinion, the Vallisneria Jacobsi is more beautiful than the common Val due to its more unique leaf pattern and ability to grow leaves with colour tones (especially when grown in highe lighting) instead of just plain green.
This unique Vallisneria is recommended for aquarium hobbyists who appreciate native Australian plants and like the appearance of a tall background plant with the potential for it to grow reddish leaves, which is uncommon for standard Vallisneria.
Based on the scientific thesis by Alex Martin B.Sc., University of Kansas, 2019, Vallisneria Jacobsii "distinguishes itself through a combination of morphological characters (i.e., alternating vertical red/green striping pattern and horizontal striations on leaves, and a basal growth form appearing distichous).
