Bucephalandra Moss Portion Size : Around 2cm round diameter (around 2 dollar coin size)
Aquarzon's stock of Buce Moss is weed-free and very healthy. We spend a lot of time and effort to grow them nicely.
This rare Buce Moss portion size is smaller and costs more than normal moss (Java/Peacock/Christmas moss) due to 3 reasons:
1) To ensure best quality, we are running a dedicated setup just to grow them. It has its own dedicated filter and is supported by CO2 and high-intensity RGB LED for most healthy growth
2) We spend a lot of extra time to ensure they are very clean, to be free from weeds such as the dreaded Utricularia Gibba (UG weed), Riccia, Mini Pellia, duckweed, other moss contamination, etc.
As this is a micro moss, it is a lot more susceptible to contamination by weeds. A mistake that beginners usually make it just going for cheap. Without realising, if Buce Moss is contaminated with UG or Riccia for example, it is virtually impossible to remove the UG or Riccia from the Buce Moss because the UG or Riccia would have penetrated the Buce Moss which means even if you pull the external UG or Riccia, new UG or Riccia will keep growing out from the Buce Moss. This usually means the Buce Moss would likely have to be discarded which is a waste of money. It is always better to get quality and clean Buce Moss right from the start and just focus on growing them nicely without worrying about weeds or other moss contamination inside them
3) Buce Moss is more sensitive to algaecide and gluteraldehyde, so we spend more effort to keep them virtually algae-free
Bucephalandra Moss is a rare and truly beautiful miniature moss that has tiny micro leaves and grows extremely compact.
It has a very bright green tone foliage which stands out from other mosses. In Aquarzon aquarium, it is used as a carpeting moss and as a moss to fill gaps between plants and hardscape which can create a very beautiful, natural aquascape effect.Â
As per Aquarzon's research, this is understood to be a liverwort. Buce Moss originates from Southeast Asia, particularly Borneo. It is usually found growing on Bucephalandra which is the reason it was given the name Bucephalandra Moss. It can form a very good grip even on smooth surfaces such as acrylic when grown under high intensity lighting.Â
Although a number of sources state that it has a slow growth speed, we found it to have the ability to grow fairly fast under high intensity lighting and 30ppm Co2.  This is why we believe it is important to have actual growing experience as a lot of information online may be recycled. Overall, we would rate this moss as having medium growth speed in higher tech tanks and slow growth speed in low tech tanks.Â
To save customers from accidentally damaging this plant, Aquarzon would like to highlight that Buce Moss can be sensitive to liquid carbon (glutaraldehyde) which is the active ingredient of Seachem Excel, BBA removers, etc. If using any of these products at full dose, it can cause the moss to turn brown. We recommend either not using those products with this Moss (of if you really have to use those products, test with a much lower dose first).Â
