Bucephalandra Mini Velvet Dark Blue is a relatively rare species of narrow and small leaves Buce that grows small, beautiful leaves which are dark blue to green in colour. In our Bucephalandra collection, this Buce has the most blue tone of them all.

Under ideal conditions which include Co2 supplementation, high lighting intensity andpreferrably RGB lighting, it can produce stunning quality dark blue leaves. In low tech aquarium tanks, the dark blue colour of its leaves can still be maintained and can still be visible (but on a lesser scale) under most lighting types and most lighting angles.

This Bucephalandra Mini Velvet Dark Blue is quite a variable species as can be seen from the photos we have taken over the period of one year. All of the photos taken here are showing the exact same clump. During the initial several months, it had much narrower and wavy leaves. As time passed, it became less narrow and less wavy. Over time, it also grew slightly smaller leaves. The current form of this Buce is less narrow, less wavy and small leaves which are still dark blue to green in colour tone, which is truly beautiful and great for any aquascape that needs a  special bluish plant.

We have grown and cared for this Bucephalandra for more than 1 and a half year and we were able to get the initial stock as part of a near $1000 Australian aquarium grown purchase from a local Buce hobbyist. The 2 main aspects we love about this species is its beautiful colour and its variable pattern changes over the year of growth.

Please note that not every single piece will have the same exact colour tone because the colours are variable which can change easily heavily depending on the exact aquarium conditions it is grown at that very point of time. Some batches and some pieces may have stronger colours and some may have less. For example, even by just moving a clump from the middle of the aquarium to the side, the colours can change the next month due to the change in light exposure from the position movement. Regardless, what can be fully assured is, the stock sent will be the exact same species as the species showed here as it would be freshly cut from the same mother clump of the species photographed here.

All Aquarzon Bucephalandra rhizomes sold are 100% submersed aquarium grown and cared indoor. They are not emersed, tissue culture or pond grown. Emersed or tissue culture grown Bucep can suffer melting when placed in an aquarium, which can then rots and be susceptible to BBA and other algae. Pond grown Buce can contain unwanted outdoor parasites and disease that spreads in an aquarium. The stock we sell is also not harvested from the wild as it is non-legal and can cause to a species to be extinct. The stock we sell is the result of natural aquarium propagation and care which takes continuous effort and very long time as Buce has a very slow growth rate.

Majority of our Buce are aquarium submersed grown for around 1-2 years and are only sold once they meet our quality standards. The price reflects the effort and time in propagating and caring for these slow to very slow growing plants, some of which only grows 1 leaf in 2 weeks when grown submersed in an aquarium.

This Buce variety in particular has been submersed grown in our aquarium for approximately almost 2 years. Prior to that, our initial stock which we acquired from a local Australian hobbyist to propagate had also been aquarium submersed grown.

By purchasing from Aquarzon, you are assured of quality, natural aquarium submersed indoor grown Buce that do not suffer diseases or emerse-to-submerse melting issues. You are also assured that you are doing the right thing by supporting sustainable growth efforts and not supporting non-sustainable wild harvesting in Borneo that can lead to the extinction of this exact Buce species in the wild in Borneo, Asia.
