The unique Caloglossa cf. beccarii, aka 'Red Moss', is suitable for low tech and great for adding some unique colour tone to your aquascape. It grows into a dense, beautiful, soft, cushion-like ball over time, which is great for the foreground or for attaching to wood/rock.

Their colour tones vary from pale brown to dark copper brown to maroon red, depending on growing conditions and lighting. If they look pale, they are not dead, it is part of their variation in tones.

Notice in the photo below (credit to alpha fish) that the left part is pale brown while the right side is more maroon red..

There are a few ways to attach it. The conventional way is to tie it with nylon and the modern way is to use an aquarium-safe superglue to attach it. It can also be wedged between crevices of rocks and wood as it can create a very natural looking effect that looks amazing.

While it is known as 'Red Moss' in the aquarium hobby, it is technically a type of unique algae. Unlike pesky or unwanted green algae, this unique red algae grows slowly, is tidier and grows more like a moss or plant.

Do not use any algaecide or glutaraldehyde-based / liquid carbon products (such as Seachem Excel) when keeping them as it can harm them.
