Bucephalandra G1 is a small leaves Buce species that generally grows green base coloured leaves which are oval to slightly wavy in pattern. Under RGB lighting, there may be some nice sunset and slight blue hues. Otherwise, this Buce appears to be mostly green under pure white lighting.

Aquarzon originally purchased this initial stock as Bucephalandra sp. 'Red' from a local hobbyist more than 3 years ago. However, after growing it for a year, there is no distinct red colouration visible. Our check also indicates that the name " Bucephalandra sp. 'Red' " is used by different nurseries and retailers to refer to different species. For example, Aquasabi refers it to a large oval shape wavy variant while Tropica refers it to a very narrow wavy variant. Therefore, the trade name
" Bucephalandra sp. 'Red' " is an ambiguous name which we believe does not serve its purpose as the purpose of a trade name is so that it can tracked back to a particular, individual species. Over time, that particular name could even be used to just refer to more and more different variants which would make it even more ambiguous.

Therefore, we decided to keep this labelled as "G1" (G referns to the green base colouration of its leaves). This is done so that this Buce can be tracked back and traced in future, for example when a hobbyist that purchases this Buce trades it with another hobbyist in future.

While it is a common practice in the aquarium hobby for quite a number of sellers to just sell a Buce under the name they bought even though there is awareness of a particular name being very ambiguous, we decided not to for this particular species because we are clearly aware that if we sell this under the name we got which is Bucephalandra sp. Red, it is just going to lead to more ambiguity and confusion which is detrimental to the aquarium hobby. This is because, the trade name " Bucephalandra sp. 'Red' is
ambiguous and currently refers to more than just one species.

Please note that not every piece has the same colour tone as it can change based on aquarium conditions that vary from time to time. For example, even by just moving it from center to a side of an aquarium, its new growth may be greener due to the reduction in lighting received. Aquarium lighting can also affect its appearance. Under pure white lighting, most Buce appear greener and under RGB LED aquarium lighting, most Buce usually reflect more colourful tones.

The Bucephalandra rhizome for sale here by Aquarzon here is indoor aquarium submersed grown. It is not emersed or tissue culture which can suffer melting when transitioned to an aquarium. This leads to ammonia and organics increase, making it susceptible to algae issues like BBA. It is also not pond grown which can carry outdoor parasites and diseases. It is also not harvested from the wild as it is non-legal and can cause extinction. The Buce rhizome for sale here is naturally aquarium-propagated which takes a long time due to its very slow growth rate.

Majority of our Buce is aquarium submersed grown for 1-3 years and only sold once they meet our quality standards. The price reflects the care, effort and time in propagating these very slow-growing plants (some growing just 1 leaf in 2 weeks).

By purchasing from Aquarzon, you are assured of quality, indoor aquarium submersed grown Bucephalandra that do not suffer diseases or emerse-to-submerse melting issues that can affect emersed-grown Bucephalandra and support sustainable growth efforts which helps protect them from extinction.
