2020 had been an unprecedented year for all of us with lockdowns, border closures etc.
While times were tough for many, it was also an opportunity to spend more time with loved ones and a time for reflection.
For many who were stuck inside their home during the lockdowns, aquariums were a window to the beauty of nature outside. It gave joy and peace.
When we were packaging and posting aquarium plants out, we knew just how important every package meant to every customer. So, we promise ourselves to do whatever necessary including extra work (daily parcel tracking monitoring) to ensure every parcel of aquarium plants gets safely delivered in a timely manner despite the adversities Australia Post Express were facing.
During the lockdown, Australia Post Express understandably could not cope with the significant increase in parcel volume (200-300%) going through their network especially with only 2/3 or 3/4 of their Melbourne workforce working. On top of that, the number of domestic flights were cut, which affected all of our parcels going to our NSW, QLD, SA customers etc.
So during the Stage 3 and Stage 4 lockdown in Melbourne, we implemented multiple measures including putting additional protection for all packages (to ensure they still remain healthy even if the parcel gets delayed) and posting only from Melbourne CBD GPO (as all parcels from there get to Melbourne airport the same night). Some small plants such as Micro Java Fern and Bucephalandra received extra layer of protection. We would also monitor the tracking of every single parcel from the time it leaves us and until it reaches the customer's address.
The toughest times for us were during the strict Stage 4 lockdown in Melbourne. It was a very busy time for us behind the scenes monitoring every single parcel which we posted to our customers. We monitored all parcels daily and when we found out any had potential issues (for example misrouting, stuck in depot etc), we would contact Australia Post to alert them on it so that it could be sped up. A lot of work was done behind the scenes to ensure the delivery would be as smooth as possible despite the adversities.
We lost a lot of sleep. Every week, we would process and pack 14-18 hours straight from Sunday until Monday morning, then transporting it to Melbourne CBD GPO. Once all parcels had been lodged, we would start emailing the tracking numbers to our customers and start our monitoring process. Once we see that all the parcels are fine for the day, we can only then sleep peacefully. Every week, we had to skip our sleep on Sunday.
To be honest, it was very exhausting but we were happy when our customers received their parcels safely. When our customers share with us their joy receiving their aquarium plants from us, we knew it was all worth it and will not hesitate to do it all over again if necessary.
Thankfully, that period has passed. 2020 is now over.
To all of our valued customers, thank you very much for your trust and loyal support. We truly appreciate it.
We hope you will have a great 2021 filled with joy and love.
