Made from ceramic with a microporous internal structure, each rod provides an optimal surface area for bacterial colonization deep within the media – not just on the surface. These microscopic pores allow oxygen-rich water and nutrients to circulate through the rod’s interior, creating the perfect conditions for aerobic bacteria to thrive. Once established, this bacteria colony performs a vital role in the nitrogen cycle: converting toxic ammonia (NH₃) into nitrite (NO₂⁻) and then into the less harmful nitrate (NO₃⁻) – a macronutrient that can be naturally absorbed by aquatic plants.
