RARE BUCEPHALANDRA ALEXIS RAINBOW - Bucephalandra sp. 'Alexis Rainbow'

Bucephalandra Alexis Rainbow is a multi-coloured rare, bigger leaf species of Buce that can grow very beautiful and colourful leaves. We have grown this for more than 2 years and the initial stock was purchased from a very experienced hobbyist in Australia. It is currently the most colourful and most beautiful species in our propagated Buce collection.

Throughout the year, Aquarzon has observed Bucephalandra Alexis Rainbow to be able to grow leaves of all different rainbow colours including green, blue, violet, indigo, yellowish orange and reddish orange colours. New growth can also be pink also shown in the photo we took. We noticed the top of the leaves to have a higher potential to be green, blue, violet and indigo while the bottom to have a higher potential to grow yellowish orange and reddish orange.

The colours of Bucephalandra Alexis Rainbow depends heavily on the aquarium conditions it is grown in. It shows its best colours including its rainbow colours under high intensity RGB lights, high CO2, comprehensive fertilisation and ideal condition. If any of above is lacking or under non-ideal condition, the number of colours on the leaves will be limited and not be as strong. 

We only have very limited availability of this species due to its slow to very slow growth rate. It grows around just one new leaf every 2 weeks on average for us. It can easily take 2 full months or even more just to grow 4 full leaves.

Please note that not every piece has the same colour tone as it can change based on aquarium conditions that vary from time to time. For example, even by just moving it from center to a side of an aquarium, its new growth may be greener due to the reduction in lighting received. Aquarium lighting can also affect its appearance. Under pure white lighting, most Buce appear greener and under RGB LED aquarium lighting, most Buce usually reflect more colourful tones.

The Bucephalandra rhizome for sale here by Aquarzon here is indoor aquarium submersed grown. It is not emersed or tissue culture which can suffer melting when transitioned to an aquarium. This leads to ammonia and organics increase, making it susceptible to algae issues like BBA. It is also not pond grown which can carry outdoor parasites and diseases. It is also not harvested from the wild as it is non-legal and can cause extinction. The Buce rhizome for sale here is naturally aquarium-propagated which takes a long time due to its very slow growth rate. 

Majority of our Buce is aquarium submersed grown for 1-3 years and only sold once they meet our quality standards. The price reflects the care, effort and time in propagating these very slow-growing plants (some growing just 1 leaf in 2 weeks).
