Dwarf Chain Sword is also known as Pygmy Chain Sword. Its scientific name is Helanthium Tenellum and formerly Echinodorus Tenellus.
It can grow to around to the height of around 10cm so based on our observations, this makes it similar in height to Blyxa Japonica.
Aquarzon recommends this as a midground in smaller tanks. In larger tanks, it can be used between the foreground and midground regions.
Based on Aquarzon's research, there are two variants of Pygmy Chain Sword which is the narrow leaf variety and broad leaf variety. The narrow leaf variety has leaves just 1 to 2m in width and a height of up to around 7-10cm which is great as a foreground or midground plant. The narrow leaf variety also has the ability of being able to form dark red colouration under high intensity lighting and adequate fertilisation which is beautiful. The other variety which is the broad leaf variety grows much wider and also taller. The other broad leaf variety also do not have the ability to achieve red colouration.
Based on Aquarzon's observation, the easiest way to differentiate this from Lilaeopsis is to look out for the crowns which is a feature of Pgymy Chain Sword. Pygmy Chain Sword would grow interconnected crowns of which each crown would have more than 5 leaves when fully mature. For Lilaeopsis, it does not grow any distinct crowns and grows more like a hairgrass that grows interconnected without any crowns.
This foreground plant is best used in an aquascape that requires a small plant which thin and spiky-looking leaves that spreads out to create a natural aquascaping effect in the foreground to midground region. This plant is best planted separately to maximise coverage and emphasise the beauty of this plant which are its thin leaves growing out from its crown.
This plant grown by Aquarzon is 100% submersed grown indoor and is very clean, free from weeds and outdoor pests. It is not tissue culture or emersed grown stock which can suffer transitional melting issues when planted in an aquarium. Our indoor submersed grown stock is in very healthy condition and ready to be planted straight in an aquarium.
