This listing is for Blue Dream shrimps with blue colouration, not Blue Cherry or Blue Velvet cherry shrimps with weak blue colour. The main simplified difference is Blue Dream shrimps have better blue
colouration that covers the body. On the other hand, Blue Velvet cherry shrimps for example, are usually lighter in colour and do not develop the strong, intense blue colour that Blue Dream shrimps are capable of producing.

This is our favourite shrimp to keep for a few reasons. First of all, they are very beautiful and can develop nice, blue colouration from a young age. This gives it an advantage over Green Jade shrimps and Bloody Mary shrimps that develop most of its colouration when it matures or reaches adulthood. For Blue Dreams, they start to have a bluish body at the age of just a few weeks.

Secondly, they are also relatively easy to keep. Compared to shrimps such as Crystal Red Shrimps and Pinto Shrimps, these blue shrimps are stronger and more resilient to changes in water parameters. They tolerate a wider range of temperature, PH and hardness. These make them more beginner-friendly and also easier to care with less worries. During winter, we never had to use heaters. And we had successfully used many types of fertilisers and supplements including Seachem Excel carbon supplement even at twice the dosage rate without any problems with them.

We are currently feeding our Blue Dream cherry shrimps with various types of shrimp food. The main food we are using is a mix of different Benibachi food which are made in Japan. We also provide them with supplements and lots of mosses. If you planning to use leaves such as Indian Almond Leaves,it is best to boil them. It helps to remove the side effect of yellow looking water in an aquarium. We provide our shrimp tank with lots of mosses as the mosses provide these shrimps with biofilm which is their natural food source.

Breeding Tips

The key to successful Blue Dream shrimp breeding besides having good and stable water parameters is providing babies with sufficient food source to maximise their chances of growing up to reach adulthood. An adult female can easily have over 20 babies which are very tiny. When these tiny babies are out on their own, they would usually feed on biofilm and infusoria. However, not every aquarium would naturally have a sufficient amount of that. That is why it is best to always have mosses in a shrimp tank and it is also good to occasionally provide some shrimp food. If you are expecting babies, baby shrimp food or powdered shrimp food are great choices. We currently use Benibachi Baby Shrimp Food which very works well.

Besides that, it is important to ensure baby shrimps do not get sucked into the filter intake. This can be done by using a very fine sponge or stainless steel filter mesh filter guard. We are currently using the stainless steel filter protector option.

The last tip is to ensure they are no fishes in the same aquarium that could possibly eat these shrimps. Fishes that can eat these shrimp include Siamese Algae Eater, tetras and large fishes. Some peaceful fishes such as Ottocinclus are fine.
