Echnidorus Aflame is a rare plant which is different from the common Echninodorus Red Flame. While the names both contain the word 'flame', they are two very different looking plants.
Echnidorus Aflame, also known as Purple Knight grows stunning deep purple leaves that may also appear reddish and indigo. The leaves are very narrow. Based on our observations, this is one of the very few plants that can maintain its purple colouration even in medium lighting intensity level. It would, of course, achieve more beautiful purple colouration under high lighting level.
These stunning purple colours are concentrated on its leaves while its stems remain green which gives off a gorgeous purple-green contrasting effect. This plant can reach a height of arouund 20-30cm based on details provided by Tom Barr and Aquasabi.
Based on our research, there are sources stating that this plant was first cultivated in Asia using an unusually purple wild Echinodorus. In Asia, this plant is known as Purple Knight and when it was exported to Europe, it was sold under the name 'Aflame'. Aquasabi states that this was cultivated by famous breeder Hans Barth sen. (Dessau, Germany) in the 1990s.
This plant is best used in an aquascape that requires an eye-catching feature plant with strong colours as its main focal point of the aquascape.
This plant grown by Aquarzon is 100% submersed grown indoor and is very clean, free from weeds and outdoor pests. It is not tissue culture or emersed grown stock which can suffer transitional melting issues when planted in an aquarium. Our indoor submersed grown stock is in very healthy condition and ready to be planted straight in an aquarium.
