Fork Leaf Fern is an extremely rare variant of the Java Fern that can grow unique forking leaves when it matures. This plant has very narrow leaves and grows tall similar to almost the height of Needle Leaf Java Fern. However, it is not to be confused with Needle Leaf Java Fern due to its ability to produce mature forking leaves.

Fork Leaf Java Fern (Microsorum Pteropus sp. "Fork") has a unique feature of growing needle-like side leaves from some of its main narrow width leaves, more commonly on the more mature leaves. This unique feature sets this fern apart from Needle or Narrow Leaf Java Fern. It is stunning when used as a background plant in a good water flow area so that its leaves can naturally sway to create a beautiful, natural effect.

However, based on our one year of observation on its growth pattern, we observed that not every main leaf would grow needle-like side leaves as can be seen from one of the photos we displayed here showing 3 different rhizomes. The left and center rhizomes each has a main leaf growing needle-like side leaves but the rhizome on the right in the photo above has none of that. The chance of having needle-like side leaves increases as the fern matures. Environmental factors and variables can also affect the probability and frequency of this occurence.

The Fork Leaf Fern that Aquarzon propagates is 100% true Fork Leaf Fern and we originally sourced the initial stock from a highly experienced hobbyist in Australia to propagate.
