Bucephalandra Elegant is a rare and very beautiful large variety of Buce that can grow very large leaves. It is one of the largest, if not the largest variety, that we have propagated so far. We have grown this rare variety for more than 2 years.
To understand how large this rare Bucephalandra Elegant can grow, one leaf can grow to a maximum size of more than 5cm (see the photo we took with the ruler). This Bucephalandra grows very nice coloured-leaves especially when grown under high lighting.
Stock is usually very limited for this plant due to the its very slow growth. During our propagation period, on average, 1 fully grown leaf takes around 3 weeks to grow. A cutting of 4 leaves easily takes 3 months to grow which is one reason why this Bucephalandra has a higher cost. It is also one of the largest growing Bucephalandra, rare and also one of the most colourful Bucephalandra.
We have taken many photos of them here. The initial 3 photos are under MML RGB LED and the other 5 photos are taken under room light.
Due to its very slow growth, stock for this variety is usually very limited for this. Once it is sold out, it usually takes a few weeks to a few months to be available again.
Please note that not every single piece will have the same exact colour tone because the colours are variable which can change easily heavily depending on the exact aquarium conditions it is grown at that very point of time. Some batches and some pieces may have stronger colours and some may have less. For example, even by just moving a clump from the middle of the aquarium to the side, the colours can change the next month due to the change in light exposure from the position movement. Regardless, what can be fully assured is, the stock sent will be the exact same species as the species showed here as it would be freshly cut from the same mother clump of the species photographed here.
All Aquarzon Bucephalandra rhizomes sold are 100% submersed aquarium grown and cared indoor. They are not emersed, tissue culture or pond grown. Emersed or tissue culture grown Bucep can suffer melting when placed in an aquarium, which can then rots and be susceptible to BBA and other algae. Pond grown Buce can contain unwanted outdoor parasites and disease that spreads in an aquarium. The stock we sell is also not harvested from the wild as it is non-legal and can cause to a species to be extinct. The stock we sell is the result of natural aquarium propagation and care which takes continuous effort and very long time as Buce has a very slow growth rate.
Majority of our Buce are aquarium submersed grown for around 1-2 years and are only sold once they meet our quality standards. The price reflects the effort and time in propagating and caring for these slow to very slow growing plants, some of which only grows 1 leaf in 2 weeks when grown submersed in an aquarium.
By purchasing from Aquarzon, you are assured of quality, natural aquarium submersed indoor grown Buce that do not suffer diseases or emerse-to-submerse melting issues. You are also assured that you are doing the right thing by supporting sustainable growth efforts and not supporting non-sustainable wild harvesting in Borneo that can lead to the extinction of this exact Buce species in the wild in Borneo, Asia.
