Bolbitis Dragon Tail is a very rare and unique fern which is very different from the usual common Bolbitis Heudelotti fern.

Based on Aquarzon's observations, its shape has some similarities to Bolbitis Heteroclita but one main difference is that this plant grows much taller. It can grow 25cm+ and this makes it an ideal plant to become a centrepiece feature plant of an aquarium aquascape.

Aquarzon also observed that, unlike the usual common Bolbitis Heudelotti fern, this Bolbitis Dragon Tail can also grow babies much more easily. They can grow babies from almost everywhere including at the tip of their leaves and brown areas.

The name Dragon Tail is believed to be based on the pattern of its leaves whereby it curls with a pointed end and each leaf can form 3 pointed ends as shown in the photos taken by us.

It is very normal for this fern to have some brown spots on its leaves. In our aquariums/setups, we notice this occurring when the plants are more crowded. This is a natural process and there is a potential for babies to grow from these spots.

When grown with higher lighting level, the leaves will usually grow greener. When grown in medium to lower lighting level, the leaves will usually grow less green and may have some brown tint / brown spots. This is totally normal and the plant is actually still healthy. This is how the plant is.

This plant is very resilient as any broken leaf has the potential to form babies out of it rather than just dying (unlike the usual Bolbitis Heudelotti which cannot grow babies from its leaves).

This unique fern is suitable for low tech tank and is overall an easy plant.
