Bucephalandra Blue Theia is a very attractive bigger leaves Buce type that can grow beautiful tones especially when grown under high-intensity RGB LED aquarium lighting. Under lower lighting, it will grow greener.
The Bucephalandra Blue Theia is the flagship species which Aquarzon has photographed as part of the Aquarzon 2022 Bucephalandra in Different Lighting Photography Project.
This photography project was done to demonstrate the visual extent of just how much a Bucephalandra can vary visually in colour tones under different lighting conditions.
The photos taken by Aquarzon here are captured in many different conditions including:
1) Under sunlight at balcony at slightly past noon time (12.22pm to 12.24pm)
2) Next to window with sunlight
3) Inside room near window (cool daylight)
4) Inside room away from window (warmer daylight)
5) Under white light (taken over Anubias Nana Petite background)
6) Under MML RGB LED
As can be seen from the photos demonstrated by Aquarzon, the same Bucephalandra can reflect quite different colour tones under different lighting.
It is no doubt that a Bucephalandra like this Bucephalandra Blue Theia is a very beautiful plant. But it is certainly good to know that how a Bucephalandra would appear in different people's aquariums would all depends on the aquarium lighting being used.
In the case of Bucephalandra Blue Theia, the following are the observations recorded by Aquarzon:
If an RGB LED aquarium ight is being used, the Buce would usually reflect more multi-colour tones which may include bluish, reddish and greenish colour tones.
If a cold white LED aquarium light is used, the Buce would usually reflect a colder colour tone which may include bluish and greenish colour tones.
If a warmer light is being used, the Buce would usually reflect a warmer colour tone with bluish tone usually absent while a hint of brown/maroonish tone would be more probable.
If pure white light is being used, the Buce would likely appear mostly green.
The observations above applies to quite many other Bucephalandra as well. Of course, not every Bucephalandra will follow the same pattern. For example, Bucephalandra Pandora Queen can still show bluish tones even under pure white light. This can be seen from our Bucephalandra Pandora Queen listing.
Bucephalandra Blue Theia is a very beautiful Buce which would look great as a highlight Buce plant in an aquascape.
Our original stock was sourced from a local aquarium hobbyist more than 2 years ago.
Please note that not every piece has the same colour tone as it can change based on aquarium conditions that vary from time to time. For example, even by just moving it from center to a side of an aquarium, its new growth may be greener due to the reduction in lighting received. Aquarium lighting can also affect its appearance. Under pure white lighting, most Buce appear greener and under RGB LED aquarium lighting, most Buce usually reflect more colourful tones.
The Bucephalandra rhizome for sale here by Aquarzon here is indoor aquarium submersed grown. It is not emersed or tissue culture which can suffer melting when transitioned to an aquarium. This leads to ammonia and organics increase, making it susceptible to algae issues like BBA. It is also not pond grown which can carry outdoor parasites and diseases. It is also not harvested from the wild as it is non-legal and can cause extinction. The Buce rhizome for sale here is naturally aquarium-propagated which takes a long time due to its very slow growth rate.
Majority of our Buce is aquarium submersed grown for 1-3 years and only sold once they meet our quality standards. The price reflects the care, effort and time in propagating these very slow-growing plants (some growing just 1 leaf in 2 weeks).
By purchasing from Aquarzon, you are assured of quality, indoor aquarium submersed grown Bucephalandra that do not suffer diseases or emerse-to-submerse melting issues that can affect emersed-grown Bucephalandra and support sustainable growth efforts which helps protect them from extinction.
