After over a year of propagating and observations, Aquarzon can confirm this moss grown in our aquarium has a carpeting and lower growth habit compared to most other Taxiphyllum mosses such as Peacock Moss and is therefore ideal as a foreground moss that can be used to create a moss carpet. It can also be used as a midground moss.
The initial specimen obtained by Aquarzon was purchased from a local hobbyist that mentioned that this native moss had a lower and flatter growth habit compared to Peacock Moss. When we first obtained it, we had to be very careful not to get it mixed as it has a very similar general appearance to Peacock Moss and other Taxiphyllum mosses. The only initial slight difference we noticed at the start was that it had less triangle-shaped fronds and therefore, it was important for us to grow it in separate containers in the same aquarium so that all aquarium parameters are identical to be able to make a more definite comparison observation. After over a year of continuous observation when growing it side by side and continuously discarding any moss mix up contamination, we did indeed observed and can confirm this moss as having a lower growth habit which makes it a great moss for carpeting or foreground aquascaping purpose.
As this moss looks very similar to other Taxiphyllum mosses, we continuously discard any possible moss mix up contamination to ensure the integrity of this carpeting moss is maintained.
Aquarzon recommends this moss for 2 aquascaping purposes:
- As a foreground and groundcover moss to form a moss carpet as can be seen in our photos below
- As a midground moss to create a layered moss appearance (you can view this effect in one of our photos below whereby we grew this over a terraced over a midground rock where this moss showed its beautiful layered appearance)
To maintain the integrity of this moss propagated by us, we continuously observe and discard any possible moss mix up contamination so our customers can be assured they will definitely be receiving actual propagated stock of this moss and any other Taxiphyllum mosses which can be easily mixed up.
